ASEM Summits

The ASEM Summit takes place every two years alternately in Asia and Europe. In Europe, the summit is always organised by the country that holds the rotating EU Presidency. In Asia, the summit meeting is organised by one of the ASEAN countries or by China, Japan or Korea.

The ASEM Summit that took place during Finland’s Presidency of the EU was the sixth summit meeting. The Summit was held in Helsinki on 10 and 11 September 2006.  The ASEM 6 Summit, attended by almost 1,500 delegates, was the largest ever meeting at the level of Heads of State or Government hosted by Finland. The next ASEM Summit, ASEM 7, will be held in Beijing, China, in October 2008.
